| The Fighting Irish vs. the Longhorns Posted: 31 Aug 2015 08:00 AM PDT ND and UT Meet for the First Time Since ’96The Fighting Irish take on the Texas Longhorns this week on September 5th at 7:30pm. The #9 ranked Fighting Irish would take on the #6 ranked Texas Longhorns for the last time in 1996 at Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX. The Irish pulled out a 27 – 24 victory over the Longhorns in the final minutes of the 4th quarter with a 39 yard field goal, by then freshman Jim Sanson. A rivalry that started in 1913, the Irish and Longhorns have faced each other ten times with the Irish defeating the Longhorns eight of those ten meetings. Nineteen years later, the matchup between these two historical programs will once again unfold at Notre Dame Stadium before a sold out crowd. Flash back to September 21, 1996 for the final minutes of Notre Dame vs. University of Texas. |
